So after numerous plans to travel to the other end of Tobago to get lunch and they not working out I was finally able to get to Speyside yesterday to have lunch at Jemma's. Jemma's is well known for being the restaurant in the Tree and for having some of the tastiest food on the island. (Again that is a matter of opinion).
After having about a 45 min drive up to Speyside we were ravenous. We parked on the side of the road, searched for parking because some people parked really dumb in the provided parking, and walked in. Uhm , we realised we had to just go ahead and seat ourselves. We sat at the top most part of the tree looking down into the rest of the few eaters at the restaurant. It was a bit over clouded today so the view was not that clear.
We ate and ate. The food tasted good too. The shrimp was OK though. Nothing to shout about. Jemma's does boast the best lobster on the island though. And the table next to us ordered a platter and it looked great. They also offer "dessert" in the form of homemade ice cream. We passed.
We are then told we could pay at the front. No bill is provided. In fact no menu with price was provided either. So at this point you may have already eaten more than you budgeted for. On reaching the cashier and providing our table number we learnt the prices. Chicken lunch is $80, Shrimp is $130 and a glass of Fruit Punch is $15. Our bill was about $550. I think a bit overpriced since we had to share the sides. But the food was good, we were full and no one was complaining.
When next you're in Tobago check out Jemma's. They are mixed reviews on the place but I think you have to experience it personally. I would be back though. I have to try that lobster!
